The Wiseman Awards recognize key volunteers who have demonstrated extraordinary service to the CCTTA, to the time-trial series, and to cycling at large.
2011 Award Winners
Bill Wiseman Award: Walt Richardson
Ginnie Wiseman Award: Dolores Coughlin
The CCTTA is very pleased to announce the recipients of the 2011 Wiseman Awards. The Wiseman Awards were created in 2010 for the CCTTA series in honor of the Association’s inaugural and long term President, Bill Wiseman and his late spouse, Ginnie.
The recipient of the 2011 Bill Wiseman Award is Walt Richardson. Walt is a CCTTA Board Member representing the Cannonballs Cycling Team. Walt not only is a big assistant at the track with a number of activities, he does a lot of work behind the scenes. Walt helps to facilitate the large number of volunteers needed to put on each one of our events throughout the year. At the track Walt leads the Chip Collection team and also has taken a lead role with the very popular Kids’ Event. Without the volunteers doing their key roles, we would not have an event. Walt is also very involved with the Cannonballs team.
The recipient of the 2011 Ginnie Wiseman Award is Dolores Coughlin. Dolores is also a CCTTA Board Member representing the TailWind Tandem Club. Dolores is very active in assisting with our events and fills roles reaching out to the TailWind club. She can also be seen at the end of the events helping with taking down the start line and assisting with packing the trailer. She finds time to train and ride in the CCTTA events and even won medals in the most recent National Senior Games in Houston, Texas.
2010 Award Winners
Bill Wiseman Award: William Rabley (awarded posthumously)
Ginnie Wiseman Award: Donna McLain
The 2010 recipient of the Bill Wiseman Award, William Rabley, was a member of the Board of Directors of CCTTA, an event team leader, an event participant, and a regular volunteer. William attended the vast majority of Board meetings and conference calls and was a very active participant. William also did an amazing job of rallying a team of volunteers for every event and demonstrated numerous leadership skills that helped to better organize the TTs. We lost William to a progressive neuromuscular disease earlier this year but he left behind a very positive imprint on the CCTTA and the time-trial series. Jennette Brice, William’s widow, has accepted the award on William’s behalf.
The 2010 recipient of the Ginnie Wiseman Award, Donna McLain, has contributed to the success of the time-trial series as much as, if not more than, any other person now actively involved in the CCTTA. She is currently on the Board of Directors, is its acting treasurer, and co-leads the Registration team at the events. Donna has been an ardent supporter of the time-trial series and has superbly managed the CCTTA database for a number of years. Her work behind the scenes has played a major role in the continuing success and excellent management of the time-trial events.
Please join us in congratulating these outstanding volunteers to the CCTTA and the time-trial series. The success and survival of the time-trial series would not be possible without the dedication and support of such dedicated volunteers.
More Information about the Wiseman Awards
Volunteers are nominated by their peers, and all nominations are reviewed by the Executive Committee of the CCTTA. One male and one female are then selected from among the nominees based on criteria established by the Executive Committee, and an award is presented to each.
The Bill Wiseman Award is named after the CCTTA’s inaugural and long-time president, Bill Wiseman. It was Bill’s vision and leadership that helped the time-trial series at Charlotte Motor Speedway become the premiere cycling event that hundreds of riders have come to appreciate. During Bill’s tenure, over $70,000 was donated to charitable organizations in the region.
The Ginnie Wiseman award is named after Bill’s late wife, Ginnie Wiseman. Ginnie was also a tremendous behind-the-scenes supporter of the CCTTA in many ways. Her support of Bill and the events was immeasurable. Ginnie lost a courageous fight with a chronic illness in early 2010.
