Charlotte Motor Speedway Time Trial Series

Plan Your Race

PACE YOURSELF - Don't go out too hard and blow-up before you cross the finish line.

A winning time trial is much more than just riding your bike the required distance. First you'll need to set your target time or speed. Then to be a winner, you'll need to experiment on how to pace yourself to meet your target. Is it better for you to have a negative split; that's starting slow and each lap gets faster than the previous one? Or maybe you'll like to start fast, and then settle in a little less than your average speed for the majority of your laps, then finish your last couple of laps very strong. There are many ways to race a time trial and you'll need to determine what's best for you.

While we don't necessarily recommend that you just go out and ride the average time/speed for all of your laps, its one technique. Below is a link to set of charts that provides the speed and average lap time to ride most any total times at the speedway.  With is information you can better plan your pace and time trial. Have fun planning your race.
